Preparing for Winter Ritual
This month’s ritual is about looking ahead and asking yourself what you need to put in place now to support you through the winter months.
Make yourself a cup of cacao and find somewhere quiet where you can sit without being disturbed for twenty minutes or so. If possible, do this during the daytime and sit somewhere with natural light, or outside in nature, as this is something we begin to lose as autumn moves towards winter.
Before you begin, take a few minutes simply to arrive in your body. Put your phone away, sit comfortably and take some slow, steady breaths. Notice how you are feeling physically and emotionally without trying to change anything.
Hold the cup of cacao in your hands and notice the warmth, the smell and the weight of it. Take your first few sips slowly and give yourself time to settle, and becme present in the moment.
As you drink, begin to think about the winter ahead and how you want to feel as you move through it. Rather than focusing on what you want to achieve, think about what will genuinely support you.
Ask yourself:
What do I need more of this winter?
What tends to drain me during the darker months?
What helps me feel grounded, energised and well?
What can I begin putting in place now rather than waiting until I am already tired or depleted?
Give yourself time with each question and do not force an answer. You can write things down if that helps, or simply sit with whatever comes up.
Then bring your attention back to your cacao.
Think about how a simple daily cacao practice could support you through the coming months. It might be fifteen minutes in the morning before the day begins, a quiet pause in the afternoon, or a regular moment where you step away from the noise and check in with yourself.
Choose one intention for your cacao ritual this winter. Keep it simple and realistic. It could be to use your morning cacao as a time to meditate, to plan your day, to sit without your phone, or simply to notice how you are feeling before you get busy with life.
Finish your cacao slowly and take a moment to recognise that preparation does not have to mean doing more. Sometimes it simply means creating one consistent practice that helps you stay connected to yourself as the season changes.
A daily cacao ritual can become one of those focus points you return to through the winter.
