Return of the Light Cacao Ritual
Imbolc is the pagan festival at the beginning of February that celebrates the very beginning of spring. We start to see the first brave flowers emerge from the cold ground, and the light grows ever so slightly each day.
It is a timely reminder that renewal and growth does not arrive all at once, but gathers silently beneath the surface.
February carries this steady increase in daylight, offering the first stirrings of forward movement and possibility, as if the year is preparing to begin in earnest.
This Cacao Ritual invites you to honour that returning light.
What You’ll Need
Your favourite delicious brew of ceremonial-grade Ritual Cacao (CLICK HERE for ideas if you don’t have a favourite brew yet)
A candle (white or gold to represent returning light)
A small piece of paper & pen
Quiet, cosy space (indoors or outside)
Optional: soft music, cushions, an altar space
1. Prepare Your Space
Begin by preparing your space. Play your favourite music, and make sure you will be uninterrupted. This is sacred time.
Take a few slow, steady breaths and give yourself permission to settle fully into the present moment.
Light the candle and allow its flame to symbolise both warmth and illumination returning into your home (and heart), after the darker months.
Sit with your cacao before drinking it. Notice its aroma, its warmth in your hands, and the care that has gone into preparing it. Take your first few sips slowly, allowing yourself to arrive fully in your body.
2. Ignite your Imagination with Cacao
As you continue drinking, allow your attention to turn inward. Notice any areas of tension and let them melt naturally with the warmth of the cacao.
Feel into the month and what light you would like to bring into your life. Just let your imagination wonder and create. Let your dreams play out in your mind.
It may be clarity, confidence, ease, love, momentum, or something harder to name. Give yourself permission to imagine it without immediately questioning how it will happen.
Let your imagination wander freely, and allow your dreams to unfold in detail. Picture what you would create, how you would feel, or how you would respond differently. Stay with that vision for a few moments and let it become vivid and tangible. This is not about fantasy, but about allowing yourself to dream with possibility.
3. Bringing in the Light
When you feel ready, take your paper and write down three ways you would like to invite more light into your life over the coming months, whether that is clarity, connection, courage, simplicity, or something else entirely.
Next, write three things that are already bringing light into your life right now. This simple act of reflection strengthens your awareness of what is getting brighter and encourages it to expand.
4. Complete an Important Task
On the reverse side of the paper, write one clear and achievable task that you will complete this month, particularly something you may have been postponing. Keep it realistic and grounded. The purpose is to build steady momentum rather than to create a long list of goals.
You may choose to speak your commitment aloud or to repeat it silently to yourself. Allow this moment to mark a clear decision to follow through.
5. Candle Blessing
Finally, sit in stillness for a few minutes, gazing softly at the candle. Imagine that growing light bringing clarity, steadiness, and confidence into your life as the weeks unfold.
This Ritual is not about grand declarations, but about steady preparation. By taking the time to declutter your space, clarify your focus, and commit to one meaningful action, you can meet the momentum of spring with purpose, determination and possibility.
