🌸 Give to Gain: The Power of Reciprocity🌸
International Women’s Day falls each year on 8th March — a global celebration of women’s achievements, and a powerful reminder of how important the role of women is in all areas of life.
This year’s theme, Give to Gain, speaks to something we deeply believe in at Ritual Cacao: reciprocity.
When we give with intention, courage, time, and leadership, we create the conditions for everyone to thrive.
It’s the same principle we see in nature. When we tend the soil it feeds us back. When we support farmers and communities, we grow stronger together. When we care about what we are consuming, we are literally creating a more sustainable future.
Reciprocity is understanding that whatever we do to the Earth, we are doing to ourselves.
It asks us to move beyond the traditional capitalist models of extraction and towards right relationship with ourselves and the earth.
It means before we buy a product we pause and consider, is this exchange serving the growers and producers? Is it fair? Is it sustainable?
When giving flows in one direction only, depletion naturally follows. But when giving is honoured, valued and returned, it becomes regenerative.
In our food systems, in our workplaces, in our homes and communities, reciprocity builds a sustainable future.
The power of “Give to Gain” is when care, compassion and contribution are met with equity and opportunity, so growth becomes a conscious action.
In 2003 our founder Rebekah Shaman wrote a spoken word piece that sums up the importance of Give to Gain, and how we need to shift our consciousness, in order to change the trajectory we are on, and leave a planet healthy for our future generations.
It also reminds us that the “Give to Gain” exchange is at the heart of what’s really important, when we love ourselves, love naturally extends out to the rest of the world.
